Jeff Davis Speech Jan 5, 1863. He also promised to invade the North, and make it accept slavery. Forever....

IN RESPONSE TO LINCOLN'SE EMANCIPATION PROCLAMATION.

Jeff Davis boasts of invading the North and enslaving all blacks there -- in perpetuity.

DON'T BELIEVE ME?

Good -- go see his own collected papers, at Rice University.

You may be surprised Davis boasted of invading the North and putting all blacks there "and their issue"  (children for generations without end )  but no one alive was surprised.

Still don't believe me?  Good.

This is from his own book,

Still don't believe me?  This is his book.

Still don't believe me?  You can get the book free, online.

It's just a click away.

In fact, Jeff Davis, from 1855 on, was behind the killing sprees forcing slavery West,  even into areas that were already free states (yes, he did, see below).  The  South's own War Ultimatums were about the spread of slavery into KANSAS -- even after Kansas voted against slavery 95%, and became a free state.

INTOLERABLE

No misunderstanding in the future??

So Davis boasting here about pushing slavery North  -- he even said he did so "to there will be no misunderstanding in the future" was no surprise.

And this is only ONE example of Southern leaders boasting of killing to spread slavery.  All such boasting, and all such killings that they boasted about, have essentially been omitted in US text books, because, to be blunt, Southern crybabies have never allowed any ugly and vile truth about Confederate leaders, into US text books.

DAVIS BOASTS OF INVADING THE NORTH, AND SPREADING SLAVERY THERE.

BY  "PROGRESS OF OUR ARMS"

BY FORCE OF ARMS?

Just a part of the Davis speech...

"All negroes who shall be taken in any of the States in which slavery does not now exist, in the progress of our arms, shall be adjudged, immediately after such capture, to occupy the slave status, and in all States which shall be vanquished by our arms, all free negroes shall, ipsofacto, be reduced to the condition of helotism, so that the respective normal conditions of the white and black races may be ultimately placed on a permanent basis, so as to prevent the public peace from being thereafter endangered.

IN A DAVIS SPEECH?

CAN'T BE  -- RIGHT?

UH -- IT"S IN HIS OWN PAPERS.

Don't blame me, that you did not know.

No one on earth was surprised at Jeff Davis reaction -- because Davis had said things like this for years. He had boasted he would invade the North if Lincoln were elected.  He had boasted the South would spread slavery into Kansas -- after Kansas rejected slavery by a 90 and 95% vote.

The entire vile story, of Southern leaders killing, and boasting of killing, to spread slavery (they even boasted of doing it for GOD)  has been whitewashed entirely from our history text books.

Davis and his cabinet, according to Southern papers in Richmond, boasting of it,  issued War Ultimatums, five of them. The first two -- demanded that Kansas accept and respect slavery, even after Kansas voted against slavery, and become a free state.

Further, this address was "to the people of the North".

The "broad side" as it was called, has been in his own papers -- and a lot of other stuff too -- for 150 years.   No one disputes them, whatsoever.

They just hope most people don't notice now.

Nor was it just in this speech,  other Southern leaders boasted of spreading slavery by force of arms. So this was just bravado, and more of it.

"LET THERE BE NO MISTAKE IN THE FUTURE"

Hilariously, Davis said he wrote this "so there would be no misunderstandings in the future."

What did he want known? That the confederacy was based on slavery, and they would spread it  all over the continent, if necessary, by force of arms.

Davis had already  paid and sent over 1000 men to Kansas in 1856,  led by US Senator David Rice Atchison.  There, Atchison boasted to the men they would kill every abolitionist and spread slavery to the Pacific.

T

So Davis was only saying what he had already said, in various clever ways, and what other Southern leaders boasted of -- killing to spread slavery.

1856, already at war to spread slavery.
By killing.

Davis was quite proud --  he looked forward to the day, when by force of our arms, the Confederacy will go North and restore the US to the "rightful condition"  of perpetual slavery, with all persons of color returned to the "status" of slavery, they and their issue, forever.

Already killing --1856 on.  Paid by Jefferson Davis.
Justified by Jefferson Davis.

An abolitionist, by the way -- was anyone who refused to sign a pro slavery card.  Men were tortured who would not sign.

No one told you that, did they?

Long before Lincoln ran for Senate,  long before he ran for President- - Southern leaders were loudly,  proudly, repeatedly, boasting of killing to spread slavery.

Someone should have told you.
_______________________________________

Davis did not say anything here that he and others had not said, and boasted of at times, before.

Other Southern leaders were even more clear, they were killing to spread slavery, and would continue to kill, until slavery was spread in all of the West, including into states that had rejected slavery by vote, and were already free states..

Davis said a lot of things you never heard about -- like his support for the killers who invaded KS in 1856, to stop anyone from even speaking against, or trying to vote against, slavery.

But here, Davis was livid that Lincoln had dared to use blacks in the US military.

You never heard this either --  Davis had promised the South before the Civil War that there would be no blood spilled in his plan to spread slavery West (see below) .  Davis and his main "enforcer" -- David Rice Atchison -- both thought they would just scare enough people in Kansas, like they had done before, and they could shove slavery through.

They were wrong.

____________________________________________

Here, though, Davis says he  looks forward to invading the North, and placing all blacks there "back on the slave status - and their issue -- forever".

For slow learners, the "issue" in Davis speak, meant their children, their children's children, and so on.

Forever means as long as possible.  It surprised absolutely no one, because Southern leaders had boasted loudly and proudly, through Southern War Ultimatums, speeches, and documents, they would have slavery in all of the West -- or they would have war.

Just like this speech, it's overlooked in US text books.

FULL  SPEECH IS HERE---------

Jeff Davis

An Address to the People of the Free States by the President of the Southern Confederacy
Richmond, January 5, 1863.

"Citizens of the non-slaveholding States of America, .... Heretofore, the warfare has been conducted by white men -- peers, scions of the same stock; but the programme has been changed, and your rulers despairing of a triumph by th employment of white men, have degraded you and themselves, by inviting the cooperation of the black race.

Thus, while they deprecate the intervention of white men -- the French and the English -- in behalf of the Southern Confederacy, they, these Abolitionists, do not hesitate to invoke the intervention of the African race in favor of the North.........

"Now, therefore, as a compensatory measure, I do hereby issue the following Address to the People of the Non-Slaveholding States:

"On and after February 22, 1863, all free negroes within the limits of the Southern Confederacy shall be placed on the slave status, and be deemed to be chattels, they and their issue forever. (RE - ENSLAVE ALL BLACKS EVER FREED)

"Abraham Lincoln has seen fit to ignore the Constitution he has solemnly sworn to support, it ought not be considered polemically or politically improper in me to vindicate the position which has been at an early day of this Southern republic, assumed by the Confederacy, namely, that slavery is the corner-stone of a Western Republic.

"In view of these facts, and conscientiously believing that the proper condition of the negro is slavery, or a complete subjection to the white man, -- and entertaining the belief that the day is not distant when the old Union will be restored with slavery nationally declared to be the proper condition of all of African descent, and in view of the future harmony and progress of all the States of America, I have been induced to issue this address, so that there may be no misunderstanding in the future.

JEFFERSON DAVIS"

DISCUSSION  -- with our comments.

You don't need to read our discussion -- just read his speech.   We comment on it. Here it is, with our comments...

  • Notice Davis bragged-- bragged -- Confederacy was formed to spread slavery?  This came as a surprise to absolutely no one, at the time, because Southern War Ultimatums were exactly that -- promises of ongoing killings until slavery was spread to the Pacific.

  • Bragged he wanted  slavery all over US -- including in free states  "old Union will be restored with slavery as the normal condition"
This could be a surprise to your history teacher, but it should not be.

Davis often said slavery should spread to the west, and into states already in the Union as free states, namely Kansas and California.

DRED SCOTT MEANT SPREAD OF SLAVERY

Here is something else no one tells you -- but Davis boasted of it, and Lincoln explained it over, and over, and fucking over.

Jeff Davis insisted Dred Scott decision meant states have no rights to keep slavery OUT, not by vote of the people, not by their legislature, not by Congress.

Jeff Davis was very clear on this -- in his own book.  Go read his own book.  He wrote it, in his own fucking book.

Yes, Davis was always smooth as a snake, but in his own book, he makes it clear, Dred Scott changed everything.

Lincoln said the same thing.  Lincoln said exactly what Davis did,  that Dred Scott made blacks officially into non humans -- and that Dred Scott decision was used to force slavery into the rest of the US.

Was Lincoln nuts?  FUCK NO.   Jefferson Davis and other Southern leaders said that, acted upon that, and wrote about it.

Dred Scott was the "logic" that states can not reject slavery.  I didn't say that, Jeff Davis book did.  And his speeches at the time. And his actions at the time -- such as sending David Atchison to Kansas to kill and terrorize, in order to "protect slavery"  as ordered by DRED SCOTT decision.

Did anyone ever tell you Dred Scott ordered the protection of slavery, even in areas that voted against slavery?  Fuck no.

But if you don't know that basic truth, you don't know shit, you can't possibly understand Lincoln's amazing speeches about Dred Scott and House Divided,  if you don't know Dred Scott decision, and how Jeff Davis used it.

Who got to decide if a state had slaves?  Well, the South, that's who.  Davis never said that exactly, but he removed anyone else from deciding.

The people can't decide to keep slavery out.

The Congress can't decide to keep slavery out.

The state legislatures can't decide to keep slavery out.

Davis wrote that Kansas must accept and respect slavery, even after 90% of the people there rejected slavery and after Kansas became a free state.

But here, in this speech, Davis goes a bit further even than that. He wants slavery in the North, and he will invade (by force of our arms) the North and turn anyone there with any "black blood" into slaves-- forever.

  • All blacks ever freed are hereby returned to slave status of complete subjugation to the white man
Pretty cool -- he just decided to throw that in, cause he considered himself a bad ass.  Never mind that he ran like a coward -- in his wife's dress.  Yes, he did, see this.

  • Bragged that after the South won, let there be no misunderstanding, blacks will be enslaved forever in "total subjugation"  and in perpetuity, their and their offspring.

For those idiots who claimed Davis had a plan to end slavery "soon" -- nonsense. Here, is his own words, in his own papers, Jeff Davis explains "so there will be no misunderstanding"   blacks will be enslaved in perpetuity, they and their issue (offspring, children) forever.

IN PERPETUITY.  THEY AND THEIR ISSUE

Jefferson Davis, Richmond, January 5, 1863.

Citizens of the non-slave-holding States of America, swayed by peaceable motives, I have used all my influence, often thereby endangering my position as the President of the Southern Confederacy, to have the unhappy conflict now existing between my people and yourselves, governed by those well established international rules .....

Davis paid 1000 Texas men to invade Kansas in 1856 under leadership of US Senator Davis Rice Atchison, who boasted out the ass he was killing and torturing  to spread slavery, and that he worked for Jeff Davis,, and issued the first War Ultimatum of several

Heretofore, the warfare has been conducted by white men--peers, scions of the same stock; but the programme has been changed, [Lincoln]
.... [Lincoln]has degraded you.... by inviting the co-operation of the black race.

Thus, while they deprecate the intervention of white men--the French and the English--in behalf of the Southern Confederacy, they, these Abolitionists, do not hesitate to invoke the intervention of the African race in favor of the North.

Apparently, slaves who had been tortured, sold, raped, burned to death, had their wives raped, their children sold, are not allowed to fight back. That's not fair. Tying women up to be tortured is fair, killing to spread slavery is fair-- but fighting back? Holy shit that's horrible -- very typical of Davis logic

The time has, therefore, come when a becoming respect for the good opinion of the civilized world impels me to set forth the following facts:

First. Abraham Lincoln ....has issued his proclamation, declaring the slaves within the limits of the Southern Confederacy to be free....
Second. Abraham Lincoln has declared that the slaves so emancipated may be used in the Army and Navy now under his control...
Now, therefore, as a compensatory measure, I do hereby issue the following Address to the People of the Non-Slaveholding States:--

On and after February 22, 1863, all free negroes within the limits of the Southern Confederacy shall be placed on the slave status, and be deemed to be chattels, they and their issue forever.

Repeat-- they and their issue (children, grandchildren great grandchildren, etc.,)are to be enslaved forever

All negroes who shall be taken in any of the [Northern] State in the progress of our arms, shall be adjudged, immediately after such capture, to occupy the slave status, shall, ipso facto, be reduced to the condition of helotism  (absolute perpetual slavery)  so that the respective normal conditions of the white and black races may be ultimately placed on a permanent basis, so as to prevent the public peace from being thereafter endangered.

...It ought not to be considered polemically or politically improper in me to vindicate the position which has been, at an early day of this Southern republic assumed by the Confederacy, namely, that slavery is the corner-stone of a Western Republic.

.....In view of these facts, and conscientiously believing that the proper condition of the negro is slavery or a complete subjection to the white man,--and entertaining the belief that the day is not distant when the old Union will be restored with slavery nationally declared to be the proper condition of all of African descent,--and in view of the future harmony and progress of all the States of America, I have been induced to issue this address, so that there may be no misunderstanding in the future.

  END OF DAVIS STATEMENT
Richmond Enquirer Print.

HOLY SHIT DID YOU SEE THAT?

His belief that the day is not distant when the old Union will be restored with slavery nationally declared to be the proper condition of all of African descent

There is no doubt whatsoever this is Davis own speech, it is in his own papers, in Rice University.  It was known at the time, and no one was at all surprised by it.

Historians are not protecting Davis, as much as protecting the lunacy and ISIS like behavior of the South generally.

And this Davis speech, is much like other Southern leaders at the time, including US Senator David Rice Atchison, the guy Davis sent to Kansas, to invade, torture, and kill, in 1856.

I can't help it if you were not taught this. I didn't write the text books for Southern crybabies and apologist to edit to their heart's content.

So, this has never been in any US school. US "historians"  could have put this out, but no one seemed eager to expose the religious lunacy and excuses of Jeff Davis and others.  To expose the South's own actions and their excuses for their killing sprees, their torture of slave girls, etc,  you would have to show their religious BS.

Every part of Southern politics was religion based. In fact, Southern leaders made it a crime to preach against slavery,  a crime even to own a book against slavery.

  1. Thanks for posting this and giving the source in standard reference form.
CSA apologist will just hate these speeches.

  2. This a fake response to the Emancipation Proclamation, according to the Library of Congress website, which has copies available for view. According to the LOC this was probably printed in the North. It is a "broadside" (pamplet), not a speech. He did give a speech on this day, but this is not it.
