Jeff Davis Speech Jan 5, 1863. He also promised to invade the North, and make it accept slavery. Forever....

"LET THERE BE NO MISTAKE IN THE FUTURE"  Davis said "slavery is perpetual".
We are about to show you a speech by Jeff Davis, in reaction to the Emancipation Proclamation.  Davis was  livid upon hearing of the Emancipation Proclamation, because he knew what Lincoln knew -- this changed everything.

FULL  SPEECH IS HERE---------

Jeff Davis
An Address to the People of the Free States by the President of the Southern Confederacy
Richmond, January 5, 1863.

"Citizens of the non-slaveholding States of America, .... Heretofore, the warfare has been conducted by white men -- peers, scions of the same stock; but the programme has been changed, and your rulers despairing of a triumph by th employment of white men, have degraded you and themselves, by inviting the cooperation of the black race.

Thus, while they deprecate the intervention of white men -- the French and the English -- in behalf of the Southern Confederacy, they, these Abolitionists, do not hesitate to invoke the intervention of the African race in favor of the North.........

"Now, therefore, as a compensatory measure, I do hereby issue the following Address to the People of the Non-Slaveholding States:

"On and after February 22, 1863, all free negroes within the limits of the Southern Confederacy shall be placed on the slave status, and be deemed to be chattels, they and their issue forever. (RE - ENSLAVE ALL BLACKS EVER FREED)

"All negroes who shall be taken in any of the States in which slavery does not now exist, in the progress of our arms, shall be adjudged, immediately after such capture, to occupy the slave status, and in all States which shall be vanquished by our arms, all free negroes shall, ipsofacto, be reduced to the condition of helotism, so that the respective normal conditions of the white and black races may be ultimately placed on a permanent basis, so as to prevent the public peace from being thereafter endangered.

"Abraham Lincoln has seen fit to ignore the Constitution he has solemnly sworn to support, it ought not be considered polemically or politically improper in me to vindicate the position which has been at an early day of this Southern republic, assumed by the Confederacy, namely, that slavery is the corner-stone of a Western Republic.

"In view of these facts, and conscientiously believing that the proper condition of the negro is slavery, or a complete subjection to the white man, -- and entertaining the belief that the day is not distant when the old Union will be restored with slavery nationally declared to be the proper condition of all of African descent, and in view of the future harmony and progress of all the States of America, I have been induced to issue this address, so that there may be no misunderstanding in the future.

JEFFERSON DAVIS"

DISCUSSION  -- with our comments.

You don't need to read our discussion -- just read his speech.   We comment on it. Here it is, with our comments...

  • Notice Lee bragged-- bragged -- Confederacy was formed to spread slavery?  This came as a surprise to absolutely no one, at the time, because Southern War Ultimatums were exactly that -- promises of ongoing killings until slavery was spread to the Pacific.

  • Bragged he wanted  slavery all over US -- including in free states  "old Union will be restored with slavery as the normal condition"
This could be a surprise -- Davis often said slavery should spread to the west, and into states already in the Union as free states, namely Kansas and California.  Yes, Davis insisted Dred Scott decision meant states have no rights to keep slavery OUT, not by vote of the people, not by their legislature, not by Congress.

Who got to decide if a state had slaves?  Well, the South, that's who.  Usually he spoke or wrote about Kansas -- Kansas must accept and respect slavery, even after 90% of the people there rejected slavery and after Kansas became a free state.

But here, in this speech, Davis goes a bit further even than that. He wants slavery in the North, and he will invade (by force of our arms) the North and turn anyone there with any "black blood" into slaves-- forever.

  • All blacks ever freed are hereby returned to slave status of complete subjugation to the white man
Pretty cool -- he just decided to throw that in, cause he considered himself a bad ass.  Never mind that he ran like a coward -- in his wife's dress.  Yes, he did, see this.
  • Bragged that after the South won, let there be no misunderstanding, blacks will be enslaved forever in "total subjugation"  and in perpetuity, their and their offspring.

For those idiots who claimed Davis had a plan to end slavery "soon
" -- nonsense. Here, is his own words, in his own papers, Jeff Davis explains "so there will be no misunderstanding"   blacks will be enslaved in perpetuity, they and their issue (offspring, children) forever.

Without further ado.... and a few  more comments I add, highlighted in green shading

Jefferson Davis, Richmond, January 5, 1863.

Citizens of the non-slave-holding States of America, swayed by peaceable motives, I have used all my influence, often thereby endangering my position as the President of the Southern Confederacy, to have the unhappy conflict now existing between my people and yourselves, governed by those well established international rules .....

Davis paid 1000 Texas men to invade Kansas in 1856 under leadership of US Senator Davis Rice Atchison, who boasted out the ass he was killing and torturing  to spread slavery, and that he worked for Jeff Davis,, and issued the first War Ultimatum of several

Heretofore, the warfare has been conducted by white men--peers, scions of the same stock; but the programme has been changed, [Lincoln]
.... [Lincoln]has degraded you.... by inviting the co-operation of the black race.

Thus, while they deprecate the intervention of white men--the French and the English--in behalf of the Southern Confederacy, they, these Abolitionists, do not hesitate to invoke the intervention of the African race in favor of the North.

Apparently, slaves who had been tortured, sold, raped, burned to death, had their wives raped, their children sold, are not allowed to fight back. That's not fair. Tying women up to be tortured is fair, killing to spread slavery is fair-- but fighting back? Holy shit that's horrible -- very typical of Davis logic

The time has, therefore, come when a becoming respect for the good opinion of the civilized world impels me to set forth the following facts:

First. Abraham Lincoln ....has issued his proclamation, declaring the slaves within the limits of the Southern Confederacy to be free....
Second. Abraham Lincoln has declared that the slaves so emancipated may be used in the Army and Navy now under his control...
Now, therefore, as a compensatory measure, I do hereby issue the following Address to the People of the Non-Slaveholding States:--

On and after February 22, 1863, all free negroes within the limits of the Southern Confederacy shall be placed on the slave status, and be deemed to be chattels, they and their issue forever.

Repeat-- they and their issue (children, grandchildren great grandchildren, etc.,)are to be enslaved forever

All negroes who shall be taken in any of the [Northern] State in the progress of our arms, shall be adjudged, immediately after such capture, to occupy the slave status, shall, ipso facto, be reduced to the condition of helotism  (absolute perpetual slavery)  so that the respective normal conditions of the white and black races may be ultimately placed on a permanent basis, so as to prevent the public peace from being thereafter endangered.

...It ought not to be considered polemically or politically improper in me to vindicate the position which has been, at an early day of this Southern republic assumed by the Confederacy, namely, that slavery is the corner-stone of a Western Republic.

.....In view of these facts, and conscientiously believing that the proper condition of the negro is slavery or a complete subjection to the white man,--and entertaining the belief that the day is not distant when the old Union will be restored with slavery nationally declared to be the proper condition of all of African descent,--and in view of the future harmony and progress of all the States of America, I have been induced to issue this address, so that there may be no misunderstanding in the future.

  END OF DAVIS STATEMENT
Richmond Enquirer Print.

HOLY SHIT DID YOU SEE THAT?

His belief that the day is not distant when the old Union will be restored with slavery nationally declared to be the proper condition of all of African descent

____________________________________
There is no doubt whatsoever this is Davis own speech, it is in his own papers, in Rice University.  It was known at the time, and no one was at all surprised by it.

Historians are not protecting Davis, as much as protecting the lunacy and ISIS like behavior of the South generally.

And this Davis speech, is much like other Southern leaders at the time, including US Senator David Rice Atchison, the guy Davis sent to Kansas, to invade, torture, and kill, in 1856.

I can't help it if you were not taught this. I didn't write the text books for Southern crybabies and apologist to edit to their heart's content.

So, this has never been in any US school. US "historians"  could have put this out, but no one seemed eager to expose the religious lunacy and excuses of Jeff Davis and others.  To expose the South's own actions and their excuses for their killing sprees, their torture of slave girls, etc,  you would have to show their religious BS.

Every part of Southern politics was religion based. In fact, Southern leaders made it a crime to preach against slavery,  a crime even to own a book against slavery.

Preachers could be, and were, arrested, just for owning the wrong book.  Did you know that?

Fuck no.

Southern states all made it against the law to preach, write, or speak openly against slavery -- after 1840, even those who  hated slavery because they hated blacks (like Cassius Clay)  were arrested and deported --taken North and dumped, told not to come back.

But others were hung, others were shot, drowned.   Citizens who said the wrong thing on a public street, could be taken into the street, stripped, and whipped for talking badly about the South.

Did anyone tell you that?

The government controlled who could preach, and what they could preach.  You did not have to preach pro slavery, but you could not preach against it.

Likewise, you could not write anti slavery newspapers, books, pamphlets.  The government controlled who could say what.

Sound like "small government" to you?

More like ISIS. And remember, you could be tortured or hung for going against these laws.

How the hell would they teach Southern leaders to be personal cowards (which they were) but violent folks who boasted of killing to spread slavery?

They could not teach that, so they just ignored it.

This speech by Davis is not even discussed honestly in any US classroom, nor do they discuss or teach Southern War Ultimatums.

Holy fuck, if you just remove everything basic, everything violent, by Southern leaders, no wonder so many people believe they were honorable, brave, principled.

No, they were none of t hose things.

discussed, by Southern apologist,  just like you wont see his wife's letter and book revealing his cowardice and lies.

DAVIS OBSESSED FOR DECADES

The reason no one was surprised -- Davis was obsessed, for decades, about spreading slavery as a Godly right. The South "had every right" to have slavery in the West (and North) because of Dred Scott decision.

This is exactly what Lincoln was talking about in House Divided SPeech.   Lincoln exposed (as did thousands of others) the subterfuge of Kansas Act.  Yet even LIncoln "scholars"  often idiotically posit that Kansas Act was an attempt to "resolve a difficult issue".

No dumb ass, the Kansas Act was the South's way of spreading slavery by force into Kansas and beyond.

SLAVERY A PROTECTED RIGHT
JEFF DAVIS LOGIC
AND WRITTEN ARGUMENT

According to Jeff Davis himself, if the people of Kansas rejected slavery (as they did)  that didn't matter.

Slavery was a protected right -- protected meaning, according to Jeff Davis himself, the government must PROTECT slavery, even in areas that had rejected slavery.

But how do historians now show Dred Scott decision?  Stupidly, it turns out.  Eric Foner, for example, stupidly claims Dred Scott was "a rather narrow ruling"  that prevented Congress from outlawing slavery in Kansas.

Hardly.  Nothing narrow about ordering the government to protect slavery in a state that had already rejected slavery by 90% vote, and become a free state.

That's right, Kansas was a free state, remember that, a free state, when Southern leaders issued War Ultimatums in April of 1861,  that Kansas must respect and protect slavery.

Let me go slow.  Because your history teacher is stupid.  KANSAS.  WAS.  A.  FREE. STATE. When Southern leaders issued war ultimatums that Kansas must respect and protect slavery.

_______________________________

No one ever told you that, did they?  Yet Davis own book has language to that effect, wherein the resistance to slavery into Kansas (never mind that Kansas rejected slavery by 90% vote) was the "intolerable grievance"

Very basic.  It does not get more basic.  Southern leaders War Ultimatums -- and their speeches boasting of those ultimatums, and their promises to spread slavery North and South, and Jeff Davis himself claiming he looked forward to invading the North and making that accept slavery too -- are simply ignored in US textbooks.

But remember, Southern leaders at the time boasted of it, and actually did the killing, torturing, and spreading terror, they boasted of.

Why are we not taught that?  Because from the start of US text book publishing, Southern crybabies and apologist have not allowed anything in textbooks that tell the truth about how vile, violent, yet cowardly Southern leaders were..

That is par for the course, actually.  Like Davis part in the Southern War Ultimatums -- you are not even taught about Southern War Ultimatums, much less  his role and support of them.

Nor are you told Jeff Davis own "logic" of issuing War Ultimatums for the spread of slavery into Kansas, after Kansas became a free state.

Did you know Jeff Davis -- in writing -- explained his logic of demanding the spread of slavery into Kansas, after Kansas rejected slavery by 90% vote? Hell no.

Did you now Jeff Davis, in his OWN BOOK explained that the resistance to the spread of slavery into Kansas -- specifically Kansas -- was "the intolerable grievance".

Kansas MUST accept and respect slavery, no matter that the citizens voted 90% and more against slavery.

You didn't have a clue -- did you? Hell no.

SLAVES SERVED ANYWAY

Slaves toiled away for the Southern Army, but  not as soldiers.

For example, Lee himself, in his first job for Jeff Davis, managed 5 to 10 thousand slaves to build the massive earth works around Richmond.

No one told you that.

Lee was called "King of Spades" by local papers.  Douglas Southall Freeman tried to slide one by, claiming  Lee was called King of Spades as a joke by his white soldiers.

Sorry - newspapers made fun of Lee for all the slaves he had digging. Spade as term like "Nigger"  at the time.   Those earth works around Richmond though, kept Richmond safe for 4 years,  they were an amazing construction feat.  No one ever did break through those earthworks - Lee and Davis left Richmond on the false rumor of a breach!!

There were a  million more slaves doing the work to feed the rest of the South, including the army.  When those slaves left the farms and plantations, the war was up.  South  depended on slaves for food.  The food went away.  The soldiers deserted.

         DAVIS COWARDICE

This is not exactly related, but see Davis wife's letter about his cowardice.  ANd her book.  Amazing....

DAVIS WIFE LETTER COWARDICE CLICK HERE

Another myth the above speech destroys is that Davis was an abolitionist, just on a "different time table".   Here he orders that blacks be placed on the slave status, in perpetuity, so that there can be NO mistake about it later!  Somehow, goofy folks claim Davis was against slavery, and going to free the slaves soon anyway. Bullshit.DAVIS WIFE LETTER COWARDICE CLICK HERE

Another myth is that slavery was not the foundation of the Confederacy.

Above -- here in his own speech, Davis says exactly that, the "it was long been assumed" that slavery was the foundation.  That is SO obvious, he says, that he does not even need to elaborate on it (see the full text above).

Another myth is that the South "just wanted to be left alone".  Davis called for the SPREAD of slavery into the territories, and  here even said he hoped to force the Northern states (by force of our arms) to reunite, and the entire nation be a slave nation.

Here are just SOME of the amazing tid bits by Davis in this speech

1) Slavery is the cornerstone of the Confederacy.   Davis apologist say slavery had nothing to do with the Civil War or the Confederacy.   Here, Davis himself says slavery was the very foundation of the CSA.

2)  Davis damns Lincoln  for using black troops. He claims the war should be just by whites, "scions, peers, men of the same stock" and that to use blacks in battle "degrades"  the white race, and justifies no mercy for blacks or whites in battle -- no prisoners.

The Southern lunatics today try to say they had black soldiers -- volunteers no less -- fighting for the South.   Nonsense. According to Jeff Davis himself, Lincoln allowing blacks into the Union Army was an abomination against white race, and so changed the nature of the war, that he would invade the North and make slaves of all blacks there too (see below)

3) As a result of Lincoln using blacks -- we will invade the North, enslave the Negroes there!

Let me repeat that -- Davis will invade the North, and enslave the free negroes there, in perpetuity.

Oh -- so those who believe Davis "just wanted to be left alone"  have to ignore Davis sending Texas men to Kansas in 1856 to spread slavery there.

And -- "we just want to be left alone"  is nonsense because Davis says he will invade the North and enslave all freed blacks there, in perpetuity.

4) All slaves ever freed in the South are hereby "placed back on the slave status -- and their issue -- forever"

5) Davis hopes to reunite the country, and make it all slave states.

Really, you have to read it over and over to get a handle on it.
